My name is Melanie. And for most of my life, I was at war with food.

I grew up in a home where food was love. My mum was a wonderful cook — proper, wholesome meals made from scratch — and that shaped everything about how I relate to food, even now.

But somewhere along the way, I lost that relationship. For years I yo-yo dieted, ate less, skipped meals, and told myself hunger was willpower. Sometimes the weight dropped. Then it came back, and I blamed myself.

What I didn’t know was that my body wasn’t failing me. It was protecting me — after years of being starved of what it actually needed.

When my husband was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, we started exploring vegetarian eating and experimenting with ingredients I’d never cooked with before — lentils, legumes, whole grains. It was the beginning of a long journey.

As I approached menopause, I went fully plant-based. I focused on organic produce, cut out processed food, and started cooking everything from scratch. Something shifted. I got through menopause without HRT. My energy changed. My relationship with food changed.

At 64, I stopped fighting my body and started feeding it.

I lost 27lb — not through restriction, but through nourishment. And I finally feel calmer around food than I ever have in my life.

Food has always been at the centre of my work as well as my life. I spent 11 years managing a cancer charity, where I cooked healing lunches for workshop delegates, ran cooking demonstrations and led classes for community groups. I saw first-hand how food affects energy, mood, recovery and hope.

I’m also a qualified accountant — which means I understand that eating well on a budget isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a necessity for most people. Every recipe I share is designed for real life, not perfect kitchens with unlimited budgets.

Alongside my food work, I’m a massage therapist and Reiki Master. I believe that healing is more than what you eat — it’s how you live, rest, breathe and care for yourself. That whole-person approach runs through everything I do here.

I started sharing my food and recipes because I kept meeting people — especially women in midlife — who wanted to eat better but felt overwhelmed, priced out, or just didn’t know where to start.

I wanted to show that plant-based eating doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive or joyless. That you can have smoothies and curries and banoffee pie and chocolate sauce and still be nourishing your body deeply.

And I wanted to be honest about the journey — the years of struggling, the financial pressure, the menopause, the weight — because that’s where the real connection happens. Not in perfection, but in truth.

Whether you’re curious about plant-based eating, navigating menopause, cooking on a tight budget, or simply wanting to feel better in your body — you’re in the right place.

Here you’ll find recipes, guides, smoothies, sauces and practical tools that fit into real life. Everything I share is something I’ve made, eaten and lived.

Because it’s never too late to feel well. And healing can be absolutely delicious.
